In the fall semester of my senior year I obtained an internship with Center City Print in Kingston PA through a classmate. This experience allowed me to gain invaluable knowledge of design from a print standpoint. I was accustomed to feeling like the job was completed once a finalized design was on my computer screen, but through my work with Center City I learned all the components of turning a digital design into a tangible object. I developed knowledge on what type of mediums befit a certain design, from materials to the location where the piece would be displayed. I also learned, perhaps most importantly, how to communicate with people, from co-workers who had greater design knowledge than me, to clients who were not familiar with design principles at all. I improved my time management skills, my prioritization of deadlines, and how to maneuver multiple projects at once. In terms of design, I was often rebuilding existing materials and repurposing graphics available to me.
